Abstract

A systematic survey was conducted for ground water quality assessment in arid tract of Punjab. Depending upon the quality index values of EC of and RSC the area has been classified into four ground water quality zones. The study revealed that 39, I 0, 38 and 13 per cent samples fall in good, marginal-saline, marginal-sodic and poor ground water quality categories, respectively. The ground waters have appreciable quantities of beneficial plant nutrients like potassium and sulphate and their positive impact on irrigation water quality has been discussed.
