Bikramjit Sinhal and M.R. Islam

Abstract

This paper presents the result of one-year study on seasonal variation in composition and abundance of zooplankton in relation to temperature and transparency of one fenced and another open pond of Assam State Zoo cum Botanical Garden, Guwahati. The results revealed that the fenced pond is less diverse but more dense than the latter. Both the ponds recorded higher density during autumn. Cyclops sp. was the most abundant and dominant genera in both the ponds. The possible role of temperature and transparency in controlling the zooplankton dynamics is outlined.
