Abstract

Surface ambient ozone concentrations were monitored continuously at Hyderabad,A.P. India from August 2002 to August 2003. in the dense traffic corridor with in the center of the city. The collection efficiency of the active sampler was compared with UV photometry analyzer. The active ozone sampler performed well with collection efficiency ranging 0.92 to 0.96. The average ground level ozone concentration ranged behveen 50vig/ m3 to 198 pg/m' during 2002 and 631..tg/m3 to 1801ag/m3during 2003. An increase of 1.4 to 2.8% in the ozone concentration was observed from August 2002 to 2003. The results of the study show that mere is a significant growth of tropospheric ozone in the urban environment of Hyderabad. The values of surface ozone at Hyderabad are found to be 180iug/m )he US.EPA standards (113 ppb, maximum 1 hr permissible concentration).
