GROWTH AND BIOMASS PARTITIONI G IN TWO WEED SPECIES, PARTHENIUM HYSTEROPHORUS (C3) AN AMARANTHUS VIRIDIS (C4), UNDER &VIA ED CO2

Abstract

An experiment was conducted to study growth response of Parthenium hysterophorus (C3) and Amaranthus. viridis (C4) under CO2 enrichment. Both the weed species have shown tremendous growth response in terms of leaf area, biomass and seed production. Large proportion of biomass was translocated to stem and flowers in both the species. However, allocation to inflorescence is higher than stem in Amaranthus and vice-versa in Parthenium.
