Abstract
In spite of the fact that the mangroves render invaluable ecological and environmental services, the people are unknowingly destroying them in the name of economic development. Hence, to identify reasons for the degradation of Coringa Mangrove ecosystem, the impacts of changed land use pattern, such as cropping composition in the agriculture and the consequential imbalances and acute shortages in the societal basic resource base viz., fodder, fuel wood and timber in the hinterland area, over mangroves were analyzed and some eco-economic and sustainable solutions were offered.
