DELIGNIFICATION STUDIES ON FUNGAL ISOLATE, OBTAINED FROM SATPUDA PAPER PLANT, INDIA

Ulhas K. Patil and K.P. Narkhede

Abstract

A fungus having lignin degrading ability was isolated from waste treatment section of the paper plant. The lignin used for the study was isolated in laboratory from sugarcane bagasse. Qualitative assay for important lignin degrading enzyme i.e. lignin peroxidase and laccase were also carried out. Lignin degradation by isolated fungus within a month was analyzed. The optimum parameters for growth of fungi and delignification ability were also standardized. The importance of fungi in delignification of the paper plant waste was also discussed in brief.
