Abstract

Gandhi Sagar lake of Bhilwara city was studied to find out the impact of domestic waste on its water quality. Seasonal and depth variation of physical, chemical and biological parameters were carried out.The results indicates that ther is a wide seasonal variation in turbidity, free CO2 hardness, chloride, nitrate, sodium, potassium,TDS and BOD. A small variation in surface and bottom water is also recorded. The surface water is tound to contain higher temperature, pH, alkalinity and BOD than bottom water while other parameters are found higher in bottom water. The lake water contains higher chloride, nitrate and sodium concentration with high TDS than usual natural surface water bodies. From the study it is clear that the quality of lake water is being effected by domestic wastewater coming from it's catchment through Shastri nagar nallah.
