Abstract
Water Soluble Fraction (WSF) of different crude oils used by Haldia Oil Refinery, W.B., India have been analysed. Each 'NSF contains several Polyaromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs). The toxicity of WSFs on brine shirnip nauplii detected earlier was probably due to the presence of toxic PAHs like Benzo-13-fluoroanthracene, Bervopyrrene, Indenol pyrene, Fluorene etc. in appreciable quantity.
