Abstract

This paper is aimed to work out thc Pb contamination in the natural waters of Pench valley coalfield area. The Pb concentration ranges from 0.014 pPm to 0.681 ppm against the permissible limit of 0.1 mg/lit, according to the drinking water standards of IS 10500 (1983). The study reveals that Pb contamination in natural waters is higher where active mining is in progrcss while the area located away from mining activity have Pb concentration below detecting limit (BDL). Thus mining activity has resulted the Pb contamination in part of Pench Vallye area.
