SUBJECTIVE REACTION TO ROAD TRAFFIC NOISE OF RESIDENTS LIVING IN DELHI CITY

Abstract

The most affected group of population of urban areas towards traffic noise are residents living nearby the roadside. Residents living in multi-storeyed apartments and single storeyed dwellings in different parts of the city were through a questionnaire. In all 500 people living in different localities have been interviewed. They belong to various income groups and were of different professions. The responses have been analyzed and presented in percentage. The survey shows that people living up to the distance of 30m. from road feel too much annoyance due to traffic and residents living at all the floors in multi-storeyed apartments feel too much annoyance. The impact of traffic noise is so much high that 80% of the residents always keep their doors and windows closed. Traffic is so much annoying sources that 70% of residents want to live away from road irrespective of the existing facility.
