ACUTE TOXICITY OF PESTICIDES CARBARYL AND ENDOSULFAN TO FRESH WATER BIVALVE PARREYSIA CYLINDRICA

Abstract

Synthetic pesticides are bound to enter the aquatic ecosystem both via agricultral runoff and industrial effluents. It causes adverse effects to non-target organisms. Exposure to such pesticides ceates imbalance in physiological functioning of the organisms. To study this, acute toxicity tests were caned out by using cabaryl and endosulfan to the fresh water bivalve, Parreysia cylindrica. The LC , LC Fiducial limits , lethal dose, safe concentrations of carbaryl and endosulfan were calculated to fresh water bivalve, Parreysia cylindriea. Results showed that endosulfan was found to be more toxic than carbaryl.
