Abstract
A procedure was developed for direct determination of lead associated with airborne particulate matter by atomic absorption spectrometry. Airborne particulate matter was collected on payper filter (Whatman No. 41) using a high-volume air sampler. Small pieces fiom each exposed filter were cut. The pieces were located in a graphite microboat and ivtroduced into the graphite tube of the atomic abosorption spectrometer. The particulate 'tad concentrations obtained by the direct method developed here were compared to those ()lit:tined after wet digestion and an excellent agreement was found between them. Day to day variation in concentration of atmospheric lead was also studied.
