AIR POLLUTION-DISPERSION OF POLLUTANTS-INCREASED PLUME RISE BY TAPERED CROWN OF CHIMNEY

G. SRIRAM AND V. GOPALASAMY

Abstract

Plume rise is the vertical distance from the chimney top to a point where the plume becomes nearly horizontal. This plume rise is influenced by various factors Several empirical equations have been developed to predict plume rise. In this paper an attempt has been made to reduce drastically the ground level concentration of pollutants by increased plume rise by effecting change in the shape of chimney at the top during construction. The suggested change will not affect the function of chimney and moreover no modification in the plant operation is required.
