Abstract

Scour hole around the submerged vane occurs because of flow separation and developing several vortexes around the submerged vane. In this study, effect of height of submerged vane for reducing the effects of scour hole is presented. The study was conducted using in a 180 degree laboratory flume bend with a relative radius of Rc/B=4.67 operated under clear-water conditions. Experiments were conducted for 12 submerged vanes with four heights H/Y=0.3,0.37,0.44 and 0.5 with various Froude number. In this study, the volume of the scour hole around the submergedvane plates was studied. It was observed that, suitable control at scour hole associated with height H/Y=0.3 submerged vane. With increasing Froude number the maximum scour hole increases.
