Abstract

Impact of effluents of cotton ginning mill on physico-chemical and biological properties of black-cotton soil was assessed in the present study. Discharge of cotton ginning mill effluents into the soil caused changes in physico-chemical and biological properties of the soil. These changes included drop in pH of the soil from 7.95 to 5.52 and increase in electrical conductivity, clay, organic carbon, total nitrogen and phosphorus. Three fold increase in fungal population and 3 fold decrease in bacterial population were recorded in polluted soil in comparison to control soil.
