Abstract
The quality of water around quarries and crushing sites of Bangalore District was assessed by calculating water quality index after considering seven water quality parameters. The indices ranged from 57.5 to 88.8 in surface water and 62.4 to 96.3 for groundwater samples. This indicates slight to moderate pollution and, that water may be used for drinking only after treatment. The variation of these parameters is perhaps due to deposition of dust and geochemistry of rocks. An attempt has been made to discern the sources of distortion in water quality (either pollutional or geological) after comparing the parametric ratios.
