Abstract

Administration of carbaryl ( 50mg/kg body wt. daily) for 15 days resulted in significantly increased levels of glutathione-s-transferase and glutathione red uctase without any significant changes in cytochrome P450 and Cytochrome b5.The glutathione content was lowered and the lipid peroxidation was significantly enhanced. These effects were more pronounced in rats fed on low protein diet. The finding of greater liver damage by carbaryl in low protein fed rats is also supported by histopathological studies.
