EFFECTS OF HAZARDOUS SO LID WASTE DISPOSAL ON LAND

DEVENDRA SINGH, T.B. SINGH* AND C.G. ANAND

Abstract

Lysimeter studies were carried out on sludge of Effluent treatment plants of Nickel-chrome plating wastewater containing heavy metals and sludge of ETP of Phenols-Formaldehyde waste water (Resin Lamination process) containing Phenolic compounds and heavy metals amended with soil to evaluate the behaviour of metals. Leachates of Ni-Cr plating sludge and Phenolic wastewater sludge collected from Lysimeters passed through surface and sub-surface soil column were also studied to assess the behaviour of heavy metals. Most of heavy metals are retained on the top and middle soil and decreases with increase in depth. The water percolating from such Unsecured and pervious land adds hazardous waste metals to Ground and sub soil waters.
