Abstract
Wetlands of the Bahuda eastuarine area has been studied by using IRS 1C LISS III data of February 1997. The study area covers a part of south Orissa coast. The area shows a rapid change due to natural and human interference and management of this area needs timely mapping and monitoring. The wetland classification developed by Space Application Centre (SAC, 1991) was followed and accordingly five classes in level I and fifteen classes in level II and III were identified. The major categories of the wetlands as interpreted from the satellite data are Non-vegetated wetlands (beach, spit and mouth bars), Plantations, Water bodies and Channel and Flood plains. Other wetland categories include salt pans and aquaculture ponds and have impact on the coastal environment.
