ISOLATION AND CHARACTERIZATION OF PESTICIDE METABOLIZING BACTERIA FROM GROUNDNUT SOIL SYSTEM

Abstract

Six genera of bacteria were found to degrade an organochlorine pesticide, endosulphan and a biopesticide, nivar present in natural soil sample collected from groundnut system. In-oitro pesticide utilization tests also confirmed the reports obtained from natural sample studies. Of the report different bacterial genera, Pseudoinonas, Proteus and Achromobacter were found very active in utilizing endosulphan and nivar as sole source of cabron. Micrococcus bacterial genera was highly sensitive to endosulphan than to nivar. Flavobacterium and Bacillus were found moderately active in utilizing the pesticides.
