Abstract

Protoplast regenerated isolates of Trichoderma harzian urn showed variation in their growth, morphology, sensitivity to fungicides and biocontrol efficacy. Fourteen protoplast regenerated isolates and the parent strain were compared and the stability of these variations were checked in the selected protoplast regenerated isolates for five generations. The protoplast regenerated isolates, when screened on various concentrations of Bavistin and Iprodione showed very interesting results. When the biocontrol efficacy was compared four of the isolates completely overgrew and prevented the growth of the pathogen while the other isolates only inhibited the growth of the pathogens. The results indicate that protoplasts can be effectively used as a tool for selection of potential biocontrol isolates for integrated pest and disease management.
