Abstract
Lead poisoning is the number 1 environmental disease among young children in developing countries. We present a case of a six month old male baby who presented with gradual loss of weight, not feeding well and persistent vomiting. Laboratory investigations revealed that he was having anaemia with low level of haemoglobin (5.5 gm/di), abnormal liver enzymes including elevated transminase activity (AST 91 U/L, ALT 38 U/L, y-GTP 93 U/L) and high blood lead value (53 1.ig/d1). RBC morphology shows basophilic stippling with cabot ring, suggestive of a case of lead poisoning. The interesting family history revealed the source of lead poisoning. This case is being represented to highlight that lead poisoning can manifest in the most unsuspecting manner and that early treatment can cure the patient.
