D.H. TAMBEKAR

Abstract

Parthenium hystrophorous (Congress grass/white tops) is an obnoxious weed resistance to most of the pests, abundantly available in India and produces undesirable effects on the environment, cattle and man. The antimicrobial activity of Part henium hystrophorous was stn died in the laboratory against pathogenic bacteria. The aqueous extract of inflorescence of the plant showed highest antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Proteus vulgaris and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The stem and leaves aqueous extract showed antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella typhi, Proteus vulgaris, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coil, and root extract against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Proteus vulgaris.
