Abstract
A greenhouse experiment was conducted to study the response of two cultivars of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) to SO2. Plants were exposed to 0.1 and 0.2 ppm SO2 for three hours on alternate days for 60 days. Chlorotic and necrotic lesions, reduced plant growth, yield, photosynthetic pigments, protein and lysine contents were noted at both the concentrations of SO2 being highest at 0.2 ppm. In exposed plants leaf nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium contents were decreased while sulphur contents was increased with the increase in SO2 concentrations.
