Abstract
Hydrogen peroxide was used as oxygen source in,a bio-remediation of crude oil polluted dumpsite. Both Total Petroleum Hydrocarbon (TPH) and grease oil and degradation were evaluated using microbial population and hydrogen peroxide concentration. A maximum microbial population of 107 cfu was established within the first three weeks, leading to a TPH reduction of 96678 from the initial value of 172640 to 75962 ppm between the 6th and 11th week. This represents a 56% efficiency of TPH conversion. Also, the oil and grease was reduced from 820000 ppm to 369000 ppm, representing a conversion efficiency of 55% within seven weeks.
