Abstract
The effect of neem seed pesticide neemta 2100 was studied on acetylcholinesterase system of the Ti1apia rnossambica. Fishes were exposed to sublethal concentration of neemta 2100 for causing acute toxicity. Various fish tisues i.e. stomach, intestine, kidney, heart, liver and brain were dissected out after 48 and 96 hour exposures. The AChE specific activity and acetylcholine content were observed in these tissues of control and exposed fishes. A significant inhibition of AChE specific activity occurred in both the exposed groups, however, the level of inhibition in tissues varied from 5.8% to 62.3%. Accumulation of acetylcholine content enhanced significantly (16.2% to 58.25%) in tissues of Neemta 2100 exposed fishes.
