Abstract
The antimicrobial activity of plant extract of Cassylha capillaries (Meissn.) (La uraceae) was studied against 6 bacterial species such as Staphylococcus aureus, Vibrio noxica, Enterobacter aerogenes, Eschcrichia coli, I lelicobacier pylori and Streptococcus pyogenes. The minimum inhibitory concentration of methanol extract of C, capillaries ranged between 10-100 pig/ml for different species of bacteria. The MIC of water extracts for different species Staphylococcus aureus, Vibrio noxica, Enterobacter aerogenes, Escherichia coli, 1 lelicobacter pylori and Streplocous pyogenes ranged between 10-50 pg/ml. Gram positive bacteria were more susceptible to the inhibitory effect of C. capillaries than Gram negative bacteria, The present study reveals that the plant cassytha capillaries can be exploited for developing potential antimicrobial agents, as these plant posses compounds that act against several bacterisl strains. At present studies are in progress to identify the active principles of this plant extracts.
