EFFECT OF PHOSPHATE SOLUBILIZING MICROORGANISMS (PSM) ON MINERAL PHOSPHATE SOLUBILIZATION AND ON PRODUCTIVITY OF WHEAT (TRITICUM AESTIVLIM)

M.S. JISHA AND R.S. MATHUR

Abstract

Twenty seven phosphate solubilizing microorganisms which included seventeen bacteria and ten fungi were isolated from rhizosphere soils of crop plants. The most efficient isolates from each group of microorganisms viz., two fungi identified as Aspergillus niger and Penicill him vermiculosum and four bacteria Bacillus sp, 132, B3 (unidentified isolates) and Pscudomonas stutzeri were selected to test their ability to solubilize different insoluble inorganic phosphates in liquid medium. Inoculation effect of these isolates on yield and nutrient uptake of wheat crop was also studied and found to be significant. Inoculation of Psolubilizers with rockphosphate gave higher yield over superphosphate indicate the possibility of replacing the entire Sp with Rp.
