Abstract
This paper describes the monthly distribution of phytoplankton in the Arabian Sea off Mangalore, off Malpe and off Gangolli covering the entire Dakshina Kannada coast. The quantitative distribution of phytoplankton revealed maximum values in September and minimum values in January/ April for both wet weight and dry weight for the entire region during 1979 -'80 and 1987-'88. The qualitative distribution of different phytoplanktonic taxa found in the present investigation has been discussed.
