MICROPROPAGATION OF MENTHA LONGIFOLIA (LINN.) NATHH USING A SINGLE STEP NODAL CUTTING ECHNIQUE

HEMASHREE DEKA H.K.GOGOI AND P.J.HANDIQUE

Abstract

Nodal segments cultured in MS medium containing BAP (0.5 mg/L) and NAA (0.5 mg/L) and sucrose (3%) showed earliest shoot initiation within a short period of 6 days. The best response for direct multiple shoot regeneration and subsequent rooting was observed on the same media with BAP (0.5 mg/ L) and NAA (0.5 mg/L). This demonstrated that lower auxin and cytokinin containing media proved best for Mentha longifolia. Rooted plantlets were hardened on sterile vermiculite and were transferred to soil.
