ANTIBACTERIAL PROPERTIES OF TRADITIONALLY USED MEDICINAL PLANT FOR ENTERIC INFECTIONS BY ADIVASI (BUMAKA) IN MELGHAT OF AMRAVATI DISTRICT

Abstract

Several plants species reported in folk and traditional system of medicine are therapeutic and possessed antimicrobial properties. In the present investigation, 19 plant species from Melghat in the Satpuda ranges utilizing by Korku (Bhumka) to treat many aliments in the community were screened for their antibacterial activity against pathogenic microorganisms. The pathogens which caused diarrhea, gastroenteritis, intestinal problem can be control with gum of Gardenia gurnifera, fruit of Heliceres isora, Aegle marmelos, Embilica offincenali; pyogenic infections, wounds, in skin burning, nosocomial infection with Holorrena anticlysentrica, leaves of Cassica tora, leaves of Aloe barbandesis, leaves of Mentha longifolia. If these herbs or vegetable are made a part of our daily diet, which not only provide nutrients but also protect body against infections by its antibacterial activity against pathogen.
