Abstract

The effect of- heavy metals such as Copper (Cu), Cadmium (Cd), and Chromium (Cr) on active transport of Sodium (Nal and Potassium Cyanobacteria Hapalosiphon stuhlmannii hieron and Spirulina subsala 40308 has been studied. The results indicated that low concentrations of heavy metals enhanced the Na+ and K+ contents in H. stuhlmannii, while low contents of Na+ and K+ was noticed in Cd at 5.0 ppm (Na+ =14 % and K+=03%) and Cr at 5.0 ppm (K4=0.6%). It was noted that all the concentrations of Cu and Cd enhanced the Na+ and K4 contents in S. subsala and the lower concentrations of Ni and Cr promoted intake of Na+ and K4; higher concentrations gradually reduced the levels of Na+ and K+.
