Abstract

Acid phosphatase is known as the marker enzyme of the prostate gland as it shows variations according to the pathological change':; and aging of the prostate. Detection of change in the levels of acid phosphatase will help in early diagnosis of prostatic diseases and early treatment will prevent the prostate from serious pathological alterations. immunohistochemical study is helpful in detection acid phosphatase in the prostate. Prostate is known as gland of aging as it under goes number of pathological alterations in aging. The main reason is reduction in the levels of antioxidants in the old age, hence use of antioxidant rich plant like Bacopa may reduce the chances of pathological alterations in aging in present investigation aging was induced in mice artificially and then ethanol extract of Bacopa leaves was administered to study the protective effect of Bacopa on the prostate from adverse effects of aging.
