Abstract
The in vitro antioxidant activity of methanol extract elutes of stem portion of Phyllanthus lonalorus Heyne ex. hook.f. has been investigated by DPPH free radical scavenging and nitric oxide scavenging methods. The methanol extract elutes exhibited significant activity. Among the two, methanol elutes showed greater capacity to scavenge DPPH radical whereas it showed moderate level to NO2 radical. The antioxidant property is due to the presence of mixture of steroids and flavanoids. Hence, it can be suggested to serve as a drug to develop potential antioxidant which can eliminate the pathogenesis of diabetes, cancer, inflammatory condition, cardiovascular disease and ageing.
