Abstract
A survey of wetland vegetation and their biodiversity of a perennial lake - Kukkarahalli Lake in Mysore city was under taken to assess ecological impact on the lake. A total of 78 taxa were identified and catalogued to 41 families of angiosperm, of which 59 genus and 66 species are dicotyledons, 14 genus and 15 species are monocotyledons, 3 pteridophytes and 1 charophyte. Three major types of macrophytes viz., submerged, emergent and floating leaves emergent plants were considered. The emergent weeds like Cyperus spp, Polygon urn glabrum Willd., P. plebejurn and Typha angustata, Submerged and floating weeds such as Hydrilla verticellata, Chant benthami, Wolffia microscopia (Duck weed), Pistia spp (water cabbage), water ferns viz., Marsilea spp, Azolla spp, Salvinia spp. and pestilential water hyacinth Eichhornia spp were found to occur throughout year and exhibited seasonal variation in the vegetative growth during different seasons.
