SEEMA JAJAWARA AND SURENDRA KUMAR SHRINGI

Abstract

The present work mainly focused on assessing the Water Quality Index (WQI) for the Chandraloi river water near Kota. The water quality index provides a rating, reflecting the composite influence of different water quality parameters. WQI reflect the suitability of river water for various human uses. In this study water quality index was determined on the basis of various physicochemical parameters like pH, EC, BOD, DO, chloride, total dissolved solids, total alkalinity, total hardness, nitrate, calcium, magnesium. The WQI values for Chandraloi river water was observed in different seasons at six different sites in the year 2010. Result showed that water at site-1 and site-6 can be utilized for drinking and other purposes. Site-2, site-3, site-4 and site-5 near urban areas of Kota showed very poor to bad quality of water and cannot be considered as suitable for human uses.
