Abstract
The present study was planned to investigate the effect of sublethal concentration of Cadmium (0.01 mg/L/ fish) for 96 hours with 3 hour interval. Exposure of Catla to cadmium resulted in to a number of biochemical parameters examined include Superoxide dismutase (SDO), Lipid peroxidation (LPO), Protein, Cholesterol, Glutamate pyruvic transaminase (GPT) in the tissues such as kidney, liver, muscle, gill and brain. The result showed the increased activity of SOD, LPO, and Cholesterol during exposure to Cadmium and a decreased activity was observed in the case of Protein and GPT level in the tissues. The study suggested that the presence of heavy toxic metal Cadmium in aquatic environment has strong influence on the biochemical parameters in the freshwater fish, Ctla catla.
