Abstract
Groundwater is the key source for irrigation in the study area. Hydro-chemical quality of groundwater of different sources in Barwani area (M.P.) of Narmada River basin has been assessed physico-chemically to evaluate its suitability for irrigation purposes. In the whole study area samples were collected from two types of sources i.e. open dug wells and deep bored tube wells, at different locations. The groundwater used for irrigation should satisfy certain standards. The important parameters taken into consideration are pH, EC, TDS, % Sodium, SAR, RSC, TH, Sulphate, Chlorite, Magnesium, and Nitrate etc. are determined, using standard values for evaluation of water quality. 5 SAR, % Sodium, RSC and Magnesium hazards were determined using indices. Observed considerations and obtained results regarding the irrigation water quality status shows that the overall hydro-chemical quality of groundwater is suitable and safe for irrigation purposes.
