Abstract

A naturally occurring hydrophilic Polysaccharide matrix of chitosan after its cross linking with epichlorohydrin has been used for preparation of new chelating resin incorporating amino thipohenol (ATP) group. The structure of ATP-CLCH resin is confirmed by IR spectroscopy and elemental analysis. The physicochemical characteristics of the cross linked chitosan (CL-CH) and its amino thiophenol derivative (ATP-CLCH) are also determined. The amount of metal ions retained by these resins at equilibrium has been determined in terms of distribution coefficient values (Dg). The metal exchange capacity of resins at different pH values is also evaluated. Using amino thiophenol resin in a column mode of operation, Zinc-cadmium, Zinc-copper and Zincnickel Separation have been quantitatively acheived at pH 8.
