PHOTOVOLTAIC PANELS AND AESTHETICS ASPECTS IN ARCHITECTURE

Hacer Mutlu Danaci

Abstract

It is seen that the nature friendly ecological structuring is becoming increasingly widespread with active and passive use of the solar energy at buildings. However usage of solar energy in structuring bears some disadvantages like aesthetics especially in solar energy systems, the suitable space requirement for being able to benefit from solar energy and the orientation, the amount of the solar energy etc. and enormous investment expenses for production of solar batteries and so on. It is obligatory to establish the balance between the technology and the nature in use of solar energy. In the study, examples from new productions having aesthetics concerns are set forth together with the technology possessed by focusing on the requirement that photovoltaic panels should have integrated with the structure within the framework of the general structure aesthetics rules in usage of solar energy. The examples regarding the integration of solar panels with the structure have been evaluated aesthetically in the surveys performed via e-email with 150 people chosen randomly after grouping the given solution examples. It is expected that the aesthetic preferences in the data obtained will help, give direction to the designers.
