Abstract
A field experiment of was conducted at Regional Agricultural Research Station, Bijapur (Karnataka) to study the effect of tank silt + crop residue in set furrows on pearlmillet sunflower sequence cropping systems in Vertic-Inceptisol under dryland condition during kharif and rabi of over three years (2004-07). The pooled data indicated that, application of tank silt + crop residues in set furrows with wider row spacing (135 cm) recorded significantly higher pearlmillet equivalent yield (4135 kg/ha) as compared to farmers practice (1995 kg/ha). However, it was on par with the application of tank silt + crop residues in set furrows with paired row spacing of 45-90-45 cm (4000 kg/ha) and 45-135-45 cm (4090 kg/ha). Addition of tank silt and crop residues in set furrows improved the availability of soil moisture at all the crop growth stage and economics in shallow black soil of Northern dry zone of the Karnataka.
