K. Madhu Magesh, N. Thirunavukkarasu and R. Moses Inbaraj

Abstract

Saltmarsh is an important component of marine living resources and fulfil a variety of vital roles in processes operating in coastal system. Saltmarsh supports resource for estuarine food webs. They are an important food source for juvenile fish. The biochemical composition includes protein, lipid, carbohydrate and substances of stimulatory and it has antibiotic nature. The higher protein content withmaximum protein Sesuvium sp (40.11%), Salicornia sp (39.11%) and Suaeda maritima (37.11%) were recorded in the present study. Potential utility of indigenous saltmarsh as probable food and feed supplement and utility as fertilizer. Important food source for commercially important fish and indicator of environmental change, and minimize the concentration of pollution by trapping before it dissolves in the aquatic environment.
