Abstract

In this research, at first, the seepage data have been collected from Shian and khan-Abad dams, two earth dams which have been constructed in valleys with different characteristics. In the next step, the seepage analysis have been performed on mentioned dams, using SEEP/W and SEEP/3D softwares which are respectively 2 and 3 dimensional seepage analyzers, and solve the seepage equation by using finite elements method. Then, the seepage analysis results have been compared with each other and also with the values obtained via instrumentation. In Shian dam, the maximum difference between 2D and 3D seepage analysis results and instrumentation values are 9.03% and 10.34% respectively. While in Khaan-Abad dam these values are 18.3% and 6.47%. Finally, according to these comparisons, the reasons of the differences between the analytical results and the real data have been explained.
