EFFECT OF RAINFALL AND TEMPERATURE ON POPULATION DYNAMICS OF HELMINTH PARASITES IN FRESHWATER FISH CHANNA PUNCTATUS

N. Vinatha and G. Raghu Ramulu

Abstract

In the present study an attempt was made to observe the incidence of infection by the fluctuations of rainfall and temperature. These factors are believed to be major controlling factors for maturation process which adds to the seasonal fluctuations in the infection rates. It was observed that the infection was high when the rainfall was low and infection was low when the rainfall was high. The temperature shows the positive influence on infection levels in all months of the study period. Therefore, it was observed that rainfall and temperature had an adverse effect on the incidence of infection levels in the piscian host.
