EVALUATION OF CLIMATE FLUCTUATIONS USING METEOROLOGICAL DROUGHT INDEX AND ITS VULNERABILITY RISK MAPPING (CASE STUDY : SOUTH OF FARS PROVINCE, IRAN)

Abstract

Drought is long-term phenomena affecting large regions causing significant damages both in human lives and economic losses. In this paper was used Reconnaissance Drought Index (RDI) for drought monitoring and its mapping using Kriging model in GIS software. Concerning studies and vulnerability evaluation of south regions of Fars Province during 1995-2012, northern areas of Neyriz, Estahban, Fasa, Darab and Larestan were damaged highly. During severe droughts, they have shown more vulnerability. The reason is effects of drought in Hormozgan and Kerman provinces as well as drought occurred in Fars province. Concerning the fact that Fars province, specially its south region, is highly dried and is exposed to drought, the effects of dry provinces of Hormozgan and Booshehr also made it worse and caused more vulnerability of Neyriz, Darab and Larestan regions.
