Abstract

SSR markers are known to be highly polymorphic and useful in many organisms. 12 cultivars of rice were subjected to genetic diversity study using 75 microsatellite markers. A total of 20 primers of SSR s amplified 20 Polymorphic loci at Seed Research and Technology Centre, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad. A total of 240 amplification products were scored and of which no bands were found to be monomorphic. The number of alleles varied from 2 to 5 with a mean of 2.6. Of all the primer pairs used in this study, the loci RM 452 amplified 5 alleles. The highest PIC value was recorded by RM507 (2.0) followed by RM489 (1.166), RM 44 and RM338 (1.333). The present study revealed that microsatellite markers can be used for reliable estimation of genetic diversity in rice varieties.
