Abstract
Industrial effluents can have both deleterious and beneficial effects on agriculture and ecosystem when they are directly disposed off in natural resources of water. The present study was undertaken in order to study the effect of some industrial effluents on germination and growth parameters of Hordeum vulgare L. seedlings. Effluents of local Textile, paper and cardboard industries were tested in different concentrations on two varieties of barley viz. RD2715 and RD2552. Percentage germination and various growth parameters were noted after the treatment. Results inferred that all three effluents decreased % germination and growth of both the two varieties up to certain extent with the gradual increase in their concentration.
