ASSESSMENT OF FLORISTIC DIVERSITY AND VEGETATION ANALYSIS OF PADDAR AREA OF KISHTIWAR (J AND K), INDIA

Abstract

The present investigation was conducted to ascertain the floristic diversity and vegetation analysis of Paddar area of Kishtiwar (J and K). Phyto-sociological study was conducted to assess the onsite floristic diversity, whereas, interviews and discussions were held with local people to ascertain the socio-economic dependence of people on the plant diversity. This study reveals the species diversity, different uses and distribution along various altitudinal ranges from 1800 to 3500 m asl, in the relatively unexplored area of J&K. In total 22 plant species distributed in 16 families are reported to be used for different purposes by local people, among which 50 % are herbs, 26% are shrubs and 24 % trees.
