DYNAMICS OF MICROBIAL POPULATION DURING VERMICOMPOSTING OF DE-OILED BRASSICA JUNCEA CAKE

Abstract

Vermicomposting is a proven technology for management of wastes. Earthworms of Eisenia foetida species are generally used for vermicomposting of litter and plant wastes. De-oiled cake of Brassica juncea has no economic value due to its toxic contents. Considering these facts, present experiment was conducted to find out the solution of economic management of de-oiled cake of Brassica juncea through vermicomposting technology. Present study focused on changes in population of fungi, azatobactor, actinomycetes and phosphate solubilizing bacteria at monthly interval upto 90 days of composting. Results show that microbial population fluctuates with time and increases than compared to their initial population.
