ADOPTION OF FARMERS ABOUT DRIP IRRIGATION SYSTEM

Abstract

Drip irrigation system as a major plunk of modern science and technology was introduced with assumption that it’s wide spread adoption will generate a dynamic spark resulting in to the socio-economic development of the Nation. The consequent effect of drip irrigation system are reflected in terms of generating m ore income from the agriculture by saving of water, labour, fertilizers and plant protection measures involving enhancing yield and better quality of produce, which ultimately improves the overall economic condition of the farmers. The present study was undertaken in Banaskantha and Sabarkantha districts of Gujarat State purposively. Using stratified random sampling, three talukas in each district viz., Dhanera, Deesa and Tharad in Banaskantha and Idar, Bhiloda and Vadali in Sabarkantha districts were selected purposively. The dependent and independent attributes were measured with suitable scales and procedures adopted by various researchers. Majority of drip owners (66.48 %) had medium level of adoption of drip irrigation management practices. The independent variables viz., education, social participation, size of land holding, area under drip irrigation, irrigation potentiality, cropping intensity, annual income, sources of irrigation, credit orientation, innovativeness, risk orientation, scientific orientation, attitude, knowledge and sources of information had positive and significant correlation with extent of adoption of respondents in relation to drip irrigation system.
